Dear Members, we write to provide a quick update on major course works underway and planned over the next few weeks.

Members will be well aware of the works currently on the 5th hole following the recent completion of the cart path on this hole. What’s next over the next couple of weeks is to continue works on the ’rounding off’ of the crest on the LHS of the hole and turfing of this area to the fairway along with turf to be laid on the worn area on the LHS near the pre-existing cart path towards the green.

Members will also have noticed last week, the works commencing on the 18th tee. What is planned here is to level & enlarge the tee back towards the water storage lake by 6 metres and to laser level the entire tee area to make the tee more useable. These works will be completed with the laying of turf in a couple of weeks (subject to availability of contractors) and will take a further 4 to 6 weeks for the tee to re-open. During this time, the tees for the 18th hole will be rotated from the area just in front of the existing tee and the tee area on the fairway side of the 18th dam.

Lastly in this update, on the 15th hole, the ‘weed trees’ on the LHS of the fairway between the bridge and the fairway bunker have had a manifest impact on the adjacent fairway with extended tree roots impacting grass growth and creating bare patches. We have investigated a number of options to control this growth and better protect the fairway area including the installation of 150 metres of root guard (as we did a couple of years ago on the 16th hole). However, given the expense of this option and resources required, what will now be undertaken is to remove these ‘weed trees’ entirely and to replace with ‘semi mature’ native trees (approximate height at planting of 2 meters) which will not only remove the root problem but will greatly enhance the visual appearance of this part of the course. Works to remove the ‘weed trees’ is planned to commence from next week.

Tony.
