Dear Members, we write to advise on a couple of matters recently considered by the Club’s Board of Directors and Match Committee.

Non Club Affiliated Social Golf Visitors

This matter relates to those visitors to VGC or guests of VGC members who hold an AGU handicap issued from a social club which is not an affiliated Golf Club, for example from the SGA, Gen Y and Future Golf social clubs. Members of these social clubs who are not members of an affiliated golf club, whilst welcome to visit VGC as green fee players, will be unable to enter VGC competitions from today 19th June.

This decision has been taken due to recent experience of players from these groups and competition scores submitted. We are concerned of the potential that handicaps provided by members of these social clubs may be able to to be manipulated due to an apparent lack of scoring protocols around handicap card submission, including in some cases there is seemingly no requirement to have submitted scores for handicap purposes validated by another player. As above, social club members are welcome to play socially as a visitor or member guest, but are unable to play in VGC competitions.

Single stroke Events & C Grade Stableford Scoring Trial.

Members will be aware of a recent initiative conducted at the recommendation of the Club’s Match Committee, to trial the use of stableford scoring for C grade players in (some) single stroke competitions to determine whether this initiative might have a positive contribution to pace of play issue, (most evident in single stroke competitions). This initiative has been conducted at a number of other Brisbane Clubs with some reports of improvement in pace of play. However, after an initial trial of this initiative some couple of weeks ago, feedback from members and particularly from C Grade players, on balance, has not been positive so the Match committee has decided this trial initiative will not proceed any further.

Thank you to all members who took the time to provide a considered view on this matter.

Wayne Grady Memorabilia

Members will be now be well aware of the memorabilia display established in the Spike Bar which provides recognition of some of the wonderful golfers who have played as members at VGC over time. Obviously a highlight of the display are the donations of memorabilia from Wayne Grady including the US PGA Championship trophy amongst other very significant items. Wayne has provided these items to help inspire the next round of elite junior golfers at VGC.

Club Directors will welcome Wayne back to VGC from 9.00 am (for 9.30) on Thursday 27th June to acknowledged this most generous donation to VGC.

VGC Members and particularly Thursday Club members who played with Wayne during his time at VGC are most welcome to attend what will be a low key Club event, finger food etc will be provided.

Tony.
