Dear Members, just a quick update on course matters, and specifically in relation to the 1st Green. Whilst we have been very keen to open the new green for member competition over this coming weekend, following an inspection this am, unfortunately we must advise that the green opening will be delayed by a further 2 weeks.

Whilst the course generally has recovered really well from the flooding event over end Feb & early March (albeit turf repairs are required on 5th, 6th & 10th holes in particular), the grass growth on the 1st green has been impacted and in some places is not yet strong enough to withstand the heavy traffic of a busy weekend. In addition, the washout of bunker sand at the entrance to the green during the flood event has resulted in weaker grass growth than expected and some ‘shifting’ of soil underfoot in a small area just short of the green, which will require a couple of extra weeks to patch & recover.

At this stage, the 1st hole will continue to play as a par 4 to the existing temporary green for this weekend’s competitions. We will investigate options to return the hole to a par 5 early next week with a temporary green established much nearer to the new green (prior to opening the new green in a fortnight).

We are disappointed to provide this update due to matters beyond our control and appreciate your patience for a further fortnight so we can present the new green in great shape.

Tony.
